The powerful earthquake of 8.9 magnitude, which triggered a devastating tsunami, caused more than 1,400 people dead and missing in Japan, On Friday 11.
According to the Japanese authorities, 436 people died and more than 200 bodies were found in Sendai after passage of a destructive wave, over 10 meters high, which affected 1,200 homes.
The police have a report of 784 missing and 1,028 wounded, after the sweep conducted in Japan. The authorities stated that more than 215,000 people evacuated to shelters in the north and east of the country after the violent earthquake.
It was the most powerful earthquake since the 1923 tremor in Great Kanto area in Tokyo which was 7.9 on Richter scale and had killed more than 140,000 people.
While rescue work was carrying out in the affected areas of the country, about 60 aftershocks of 8.8 magnitude on the Richter scale were felt during the day, according to Japan Meteorological Agency.
